Facial wrinkles can be successfully treated with a protein called Botulinum toxin (Botox®).
In cosmetic use, the small amount of toxin required is extremely safe to use.
Botox® used this way creates a reversible relaxation of the muscles responsible for creating facial lines and wrinkles when you smile, frown or raise your eyebrows. By relaxing these muscles, the lines/wrinkles cannot be formed and so the face remains smooth, fresh and youthful.
The duration of the effects of Botox® varies from patient to patient and on the strength/depth of the wrinkles to begin with. However, in general, it lasts somewhere between 3-6 months, after which the muscles will gradually become fully functional again. There are no long-term negative effects and the procedure can be repeated in the same muscles without causing any damage.

Botox® is a muscle relaxing medicine which is injected into the facial muscles to relax them and smooth wrinkles which form when you frown. The very highly regarded brand of Botox® we use here at Olsens is called 'Bocouture'.
The active ingredient in Bocouture is Botulinum toxin type A which has been medically used for more than 20 years. For cosmetic treatment, the tiny amount of toxin required is extremely safe to use.
After injecting, nerve signals are blocked that cause muscles to contract when we frown. Treatment with Bocouture is fully reversible. After approximately 3-6 months, the effects will wear off completely and the muscles regain their full activity with no permanent damage or weakening.
During your initial consultation, we will ask you about your medical history, whether you are currently taking any medications and whether you have had any facial treatments in the past.
You may also be asked about your expectation of the treatment results. The possibility of unwanted side effects will be discussed and you will be given the opportunity to ask any questions and advised to read this information thoroughly in your own time before you embark upon your treatment.
After studying your frown lines, the facial areas due for treatment will be wiped with a sterile wipe, and Bocouture will be injected with a very fine needle into the chosen facial sites requiring the treatment. The injections should not cause much discomfort. The treatment usually tales around 15 minutes to perform.
People can respond differently to treatment, some people may start to see an effect after just two or three days whilst for others it can take longer. It takes a maximum of 14 days to see the full effect. The effect of Bocouture lasts three or four months after the treatment and subsequent future treatments can be carried out as often as you desire with a minimum of 3 months in between treatments.
As with all medicines, Bocouture may cause some unwanted results in some people which, if they do occur, is usually within the first week after treatment and are temporary. The most common unwanted results are usually related to the injection - such as pain, redness, bruising or swelling, and are of short duration. You may also experience headache, elevation of eyebrow or a sensation of heaviness. You should contact us if you have any concerns regarding these or any other possible unwanted side effects.
Although the risk is very small as Bocouture is a very low allergen, it possible that some people could have an allergic reaction such as developing a rash. Again, please contact us immediately in the unlikely event of this occurring.
